Much of the praise and hype that surrounds the night race at Bristol is actually true about this race at Richmond International Speedway. RIR is an absolutely fantastic facility that delivers short track excitement with very, very fast speeds. This race used to determine who would make the 16 driver Playoff field. Now for the first it will help determine who stays in the Playoffs since Indianapolis was awarded the final regular season race. Now under the lights on a Saturday night Richmond will host it’s second Playoff race. The winner of this race will be guaranteed a place in the second round of three playoff races with a win just like Martin Truex Jr. who won Sunday in Las Vegas. He knows he’ll be in the Playoffs all the way to the race in Kansas. In 2009 Toyota got their first Cup win here from Kyle Busch. Since then the Toyotas have done very well. In fact from 2009 to now Toyota have won 12 of the 21 races run. That includes the three straight. 11 of those races were won by Joe Gibbs Racing. Chevrolet used to dominate here but they only have four wins since 2009. Ford have four wins in the last 21 races. Will Ford or Chevrolet dominate where Joe Gibbs Racing have won 11 of the last 21 races? We’ll find out Saturday night under the lights in the commonwealth of Virginia.

Tuesday look for our Top 10 drivers on short tracks.
