TOP FIVE DRIVERS TO WATCH

TOP 5 DRIVERS TO WATCH: MICHIGAN INT SPEEDWAY

The #5 driver is a three time former winner here, #42 Kyle Larson. Kyle has done pretty well here in his young career. He has ten starts, five were Top 10’s and four were Top 5’s including the three wins. An unbelievable three straight wins that started in August of 2016! He is though, #16 hottest over the last six races. He seems to have found the right touch here in the Irish Hills and I look for the lucky touch to find him here again.

My #4 driver is a two time former winner here, #22 Joey Logano. Joey has 20 starts, two wins, and five Top 5’s. 11 of his last 12 races were Top 10’s and his five Top 5’s came in this stretch. Joey has a win that locks him in the playoffs so look for him to gamble on pit strategy towards the end of this race. The most over-used phrase of the weekend will be “track position.” He is #4 rated on tracks like this and is #2 hottest over the last six weeks.

My #3 driver to watch is a home state hero, #2 Brad Keselowski. Brad grew up less than a hundred miles from MIS in Rochester MI. Brad has 19 starts, no wins and six Top 5’s. He is #3 ranked on tracks like this and #3 hottest over the last six weeks. Half of Brad’s last six starts were Top 5’sincluding a 2nd place finish here in his last stop in August of last year.

The #2 driver is the hottest driver over the last six weeks, #9 Chase Elliott. Chase had a win at Talladega and four more consecutive Top 5’s. Chase is on a roll that should not end here. Chase has six starts and three Top 5’s, all of them were second place finishes. In the last ten years or 20 races his team, Hendrick Motorsports won four races, the most of any team. Their motor shop has eight wins in the last ten years.

My #1 driver is another two time former winner here and the most recent winner, #4 Kevin Harvick. Kevin has 36 starts, two wins, and 12 Top 5’s. But this is the more important stat – seven of his last 12 finishes here were second or first place finishes. Nine of his last 12 races here were Top 5’s. Never count Kevin Harvick out on a downforce track. He is #5 hottest and #5 on tracks like this.

Monday look for our preview of the Toyota/Save Mart 350 from Sonoma.
