TOP FIVE DRIVERS TO WATCH

Texas AAA 500 from TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY

The #5 driver is #1 hottest at the moment, #22 Joey Logano. Joey has 20 starts, one win, and eight Top 5’s. Joey knows he has ruffled some feathers along the way and may have to watch his mirror a little more, but he is #1 hottest at the right time. He is locked in a Playoff spot at Miami and can afford to take some chances.

My #4 driver has kind of struggled here, #78 Martin Truex Jr. He has 25 starts, no wins and four Top 5’s (16%). But Martin became champion last year because he was good just about everywhere. He comes into the Lone Star state rated #1 mile and a half tracks like Texas. He is #6 hottest over the last six weeks and would be higher if he wasn’t denied wins in Charlotte and Texas.

My #3 pick needs a big race to stay in the Playoffs, #9 Chase Elliott. Chase has five starts here, no wins, and two Top 5’s (40%). Every one of his finishes has been 11th or better. He is rated #3 on tracks like this, and has the #2 Average Finish at Texas. He is #3 hottest over the last six weeks he’ll stay in that spot and improve his chances to go to Miami with a Top 3 finish.

My #2 driver is the most recent winner here, #18 Kyle Busch. Kyle comes into Texas with 25 starts, three wins and 12 Top 5’s. 48% Top 5! He is #8 hottest over the last six weeks and happy to be here where six of his last eight races were all Top 5’s including a win in April of 2016 and earlier this year.

My #1 pick is the most recent winner here, #4 Kevin Harvick. Kevin has 31 starts, one win and nine Top 5’s. Kevin sits #4 in points and doesn’t want to get moved to the bottom four spots. Kevin is #2 rated on tracks like this and #2 hottest over the last six weeks. Kevin has eight straight Top 10’s, six of those were Top 5’s.

Monday look for our preview of the CAN-AM 500 from Phoenix.
