RACE PREVIEW

mis18.2

CONSUMERS ENERGY 400

MICHIGAN INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY

AUGUST 12th, 2:30PM ET on NBCSN TV

2 Miles 18 Degrees of Banking

NASCAR returns to the track that Roger Penske built in a beautiful area of Michigan about 70 miles outside of the Motor City: Detroit. Is it important to win a race in the backyard of the auto industry? You’d better believe it!  There is nothing like winning a race on your own home turf. This track is wide enough for easy passing but sometimes the demands are very tough on motors as well as the nerves of the drivers. There are just four chances left for drivers to score a win and get into the 16-driver Playoff field. That pressure and reward should up the ante of drama. Who dominates? In the last 10 years Chevrolet has the most wins with ten. Four of those came from Hendrick Motorsports and eight have come from the HMS engine shop. Ford and Toyota have each won five races. Chip Ganassi Racing’s Kyle Larson has won three of the last four races run here. Will Chevy remain the dominate make of car? Will Toyota or Ford break the tie? Will someone new get a win and lock into the “Playoffs”? We’ll know on Sunday.

Tuesday look for our Top 10 drivers on downforce tracks in advance of the consumers Energy 400 from Michigan International Speedway. Thursday we’ll rank the top 30 drivers.
