For the sixth week in a row we see Furniture Row Racing at the #1 spot. For four weeks in a row we saw zero change in the Top 10. That changes this week. The Top 3 remain the same even with a big win from Joe Gibbs Racing’s Kyle Busch. Furniture Row Racing, Stewart Haas Racing and  Joe Gibbs Racing all closely locked together at the top. Hendrick Motorsports and Team Penske swap spots this week. Could this be a better late than never surge from HMS? Chip Ganassi Racing, Wood Brothers Racing and Richard Childress Racing hold their positions this again this week. Roush Fenway Racing is starting to see the benefits of their mid season driver change and move up a spot to #9 this week. Lastly we find JTG Racing at the #10 place.

GO BOWLING AT THE GLEN

WATKINS GLEN INTERNATIONAL

AUGUST 5th, 2:30PM ET on NBC TV

ROAD COURSE, 2.45 Miles 11 Turns

Twice a year NASCAR makes a detour from the standard oval and gets its swerve on, on a road course. And this year a hybrid Roval-Road Course oval in Charlotte. No more just turn left and go. Instead of going counter-clockwise like you would on an oval, road courses go clockwise and twist and turn the whole way. Here at Watkins Glen International the drivers have 11 turns on an almost 2.5 mile course in a truly beautiful part of New York State. There are only five races left or 1,788 miles to go before the Playoffs and it is clear a win gets you in. Drivers in the Top 30 of the points’ race might be thinkin’ this is their best shot if they find themselves near the front toward the end of the race. Restarts will be wild and we should see some gambling on tires and fuel. Chevrolet has won 13 of the last 20 races. But three of the last five have been won by Toyota’s. Martin Truex won here last year in a Toyota and Denny Hamlin the year before in a Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota. No team has won here more in the last ten years than Joe Gibbs Racing (three wins).Who has the advantage? We’ll know on Sunday.

TOP FIVE DRIVERS

Top 5 Drivers to watch: POCANO

The #5 driver finished second here in June, #42 Kyle Larson. Kyle has nine starts here and just two Top 5’s. Kyle is #7 hottest over the last six weeks and ranked #7 on flat tracks. Kyle finished 2nd here in June and remember Kyle “The Highliner” Larson is not afraid to go places on the track where others fear to tread.

My #4 pick is my #1 driver in average finish here, #2 Brad Keselowski. Brad has nine Top 5’s in his 17 starts, 52%. Brad did win this race in 2011 and he had a fifth place finish last year and again in June. Actually all of his last six starts here were Top 5’s. Brad is #4 on flat tracks and #7 in points. On the other hand, he is #12 hottest over the last six weeks.

My #3 pick is the most recent winner here, #78 Martin Truex. Martin won here in the June race in 2015 and again this year.  He has 25 starts, two wins and just five Top 5’s. He is #2 hottest over the last six weeks and ranked #5 on flat tracks.

The #2 driver to watch is the defending champion of this race, #18 Kyle Busch. That win in July of last year was Kyle’s first win here. He has 27 starts and he has six Top 5’s. He is #3 hottest over the last six weeks and he finished 3rd here in June.

My #1 driver to watch has never won here, #4 Kevin Harvick. But he is red hot coming off flat track NHMS. Kevin has 35 starts, no wins and 11 Top 5’s. He is my #1 rated flat track driver just came off a big flat track win and he IS #1 hottest over the last six weeks. Lastly he has four straight Top 5’s making him my pick for a big win here in Mountains.

For the fifth week in a row we see Furniture Row Racing at the #1 spot. Not only did they hold their place all the teams held their spots. Stewart Haas Racing, Joe Gibbs Racing, Team Penske and Hendrick Motorsports all stay put in the Top 5. Even the big win from Kevin Harvick can’t move Stewart Haas Racing up. Chip Ganassi Racing, Wood Brothers Racing, Richard Childress Racing, JTG Racing and Roush Fenway Racing all also stay in place this week. This is the fourth week in a row we have seen the Top 10 frozen. As we roll into a race in Pocono I’ll be surprised if we see a great amount of movement next week.

GANDER OUTDOORS 400

POCANO RACEWAY

2.5 MILES

BANKING Turn 1 14 degrees, Turn 2, 8 degrees, Turn 3, 6 Degrees

July 29th, 2:30PM ET on NBC-SN TV

Is this a road course, a flat track, or a tri-oval? How about all of the above? Only three turns, yet each one is banked slightly differently. When you attend this race in this spectacular part of the country, it is like watching a road course because you can’t really see every turn on the track. There are only six races left before the Playoffs and win here could cement a driver in the Playoff hunt. There is nowhere better than here for a surprise winner. We have seen 16 different drivers win here in the last ten years. Those 16 drivers come from eight different teams. Two teams though have 55% of those wins. Hendrick Motorsports has the most wins in the last ten years, with six – two from Jeff Gordon and Dale Earnhardt Jr. and one each from Jimmie Johnson and Kasey Kahne. But their last win was in this race in 2014. Joe Gibbs Racing has five wins in the last ten years – one each from Joey Logano, Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth and two from Denny Hamlin. That has helped Toyota to get nine wins in the last 12 races. Does Chevrolet or Ford have anything for the Toyota’s? We’ll know on Sunday.

Tuesday look for our top 10 drivers on flat tracks. Thursday we rank the top 30 drivers for Sunday’s race.

TOP FIVE DRIVERS

NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY

My #5 driver is the defending champion of this race, #11 Denny Hamlin. Denny’s win here last year was his third win here. Denny has 24 starts, three wins, and ten Top 5’s. His team Joe Gibbs Racing has won 40% of the races here in the last ten years and Denny is my #5 ranked flat track driver.

The #4 pick is my #1 rated flat track driver, #4 Kevin Harvick. Kevin has 34 starts, two wins and ten Top 5 finishes. Kevin is #2 hottest over the last six races. His last win was in the Chase race in 2016.

The #3 pick is the hottest driver at the moment, #78 Martin Truex. Martin is the #1 hottest over the last six weeks. Martin has 23 starts here, no wins and ten Top 5’s. Martin has been red hot everywhere this year but here he is ranked #7 on flat tracks.

My #2 driver is the #2 rated flat track driver, #2 Brad Keselowski. Here in the Granite State Brad has 17 starts, one win and has seven total career Top 5’s (41%) including a fourth place in the Playoff race here last year. He is rated #2 for me on flat tracks and has the #2 average finish. Over the last six weeks, he is #6 hottest.

My #1 pick is the most recent winner here, #18 Kyle Busch. Kyle has 26 starts, three wins and ten Top 5’s. Kyle is a very good flat track driver and his win here last year shows he knows how to get it done.  His team Joe Gibbs Racing, so far this year, has won five of the last six races here.

Monday look our preview the Gander Outdoors 400.
