CHASE RACE #2

This week the drivers of the NASCAR circuit head back north to the Granite State to New Hampshire International Speedway located about 75 miles from downtown Boston. A very flat, 1.05 mile track always provides an interesting race. Martin Truex won in Chicago and is guaranteed to move onto the next round in the Chase. This is race #2 of the ten-race Chase for the Cup. Because of the flat, tight turns there is always beatin’ and bangin’ on this track. None of the Chase drivers want to be caught up in any of that, they just want to get in and get as many points as possible. From this point on no one wants a DNF (Did Not Finish), one can hurt; two will kill your chances at the Cup. Joe Gibbs Racing has the most wins in the last ten years with seven including a win from Matt Kenseth earlier in the year and in this race here last year. Will Joe Gibbs Racing who have dominated the circuit in the regular season continue their domination here in this crucial Chase race? We’ll find out on Sunday.

Tuesday look for our Top 10 teams in advance of the BAD BOY OFF ROAD 300 from New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

TOP FIVE DRIVERS

CHICAGOLAND SPEEDWAY TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES 400

The #5 driver is a former winner here, #20 Matt Kenseth.  Matt has 15 starts at Chicagoland and just four Top 5’s, plus that win. It is important to note that two of those Top 5’s came in the last three races. All three of them were Top 10’s. Matt is rated #4 for me on tracks like this.

My #4 pick has won on 19 different tracks but not this one, #48 Jimmie Johnson. Jimmie has 14 starts, no wins and seven Top 5’s. Even with no wins, Jimmie is very happy to be here where he has 50% Top 5’s and he has a good shot to get his Chase Mode engaged, which he needs because he comes in here #17 hottest over the last six races.

My #3 driver only has two starts here, #42 Kyle Larson. With those two starts, Kyle had a third place in his debut and placed 7th last year. Kyle sits at #4 hottest over the last six weeks. Four of those were Top 5’s, one was a win!

My #2 pick made the Chase by getting four wins, #18 Kyle Busch. Kyle comes into the Second City where he has eleven starts, a win and four Top 5’s. Kyle won in 2008 and a lot has changed, but he does have four straight Top 10’s and two of them were Top 5’s, which I think Kyle will have on Sunday.

The #1 driver to watch won here two years, #2 Brad Keselowski. Brad has two wins in just seven starts. His other win was in 2012. He is #1 for me on these downforce tracks and is #3 hottest over the last six weeks.

Monday we’ll preview the Sylvania 300 from New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
