TOP FIVE DRIVERS

CITIZEN SOLDIER 400

My #5 driver is a former-winner here, #2 Brad Keselowski. Brad comes into the First State with 13 starts, one win and four Top 5’s. Brad is rated #3 on tracks like this. He and Kevin Harvick have the most Top 5’s of drivers this year and I won’t bet against them. Brad is also #6 hottest over the last six races.

My #4 driver is a ten-time former-winner, #48 Jimmie Johnson. Here at Dover, Jimmie has ten wins in just 29 starts and 15 Top 5’s. He has seven wins in his last 15 starts. He has the #1 highest average finish and is #5 rated on tracks like this. But picking him is still a bit of a risk because he is #10 hottest over the last six weeks and his combined average finish of his last two starts here is 33rd, but it’s a risk I’m more than willing to take.

My #3 driver doesn’t have a lot of experience here, #42 Kyle Larson. Kyle has five starts at the Monster Mile, no wins and two Top 5’s. He finished  second here earlier in the year and third in the early race last year. His worst finish is only 11th. If he wants to make it to the next round of Chase races he’ll need a big finish Sunday. Kyle is #5 hottest over the last six races.

The #2 pick doesn’t have the best stats here, #22 Joey Logano. Joey comes into the Monster Mile with 15 starts, no wins and three Top 5’s. But Joey is #4 hottest over the last six weeks and #2 ranked on track like this. Seven of his last nine races here were Top 10’s.

The #1 pick just won at the Magic Mile, #4 Kevin Harvick. Here, Kevin seems to have finally figured out the code to beat the Monster. Kevin is the defending winner of this race, getting a win last year that locked him into the next round of Chase races. He got that win in 31 starts with just five Top 5’s. He is #1 rated for me on the flat tracks and is #1 hottest over the last six weeks.

CITIZEN SOLDIER 400

1 mile, 24 Degrees of Banking

Coming out of the New Hampshire Motor Speedway –known as the Magic Mile- it is hard to maintain that same level of excitement, but the Monster Mile at Dover comes pretty close. The banking is high and the sight lines are amazing. Take the 12 degrees of banking at New Hampshire and double it to 24 degrees. Just about wherever you sit you have a great view of the track. There is never a dull moment at the Monster Mile and the drama surrounding the Chase only adds to it. This year, for the third time, we have the elimination element – after this race four of the sixteen drivers will be eliminated based on the last three races. Martin Truex and Kevin Harvick are locked in with wins at Chicago and New Hampshire. That leaves just ten slots in next round of the Chase. Something to keep in mind here at Dover: Hendrick Motorsports has won eight races here in the past ten years (40%) including four of the last six races. If you look at the Hendrick Motor Shop that is ten wins in the last ten years (50%). Earlier in the year Matt Kenseth won driving for Joe Gibbs Racing. Very few of the sixteen Chase drivers are completely safe from elimination. A win gets you in, so will this race be won in a late race restart? We’ll find out Sunday.

Tuesday look for our Top 10 Drivers by track type for Sunday’s CITIZEN SOLDIER 400 from Dover.

TOP FIVE DRIVERS

NEW HAMPSHIRE MOTOR SPEEDWAY BAD BOY OFF ROAD 300

My #5 pick is coming off a tough day in Chicago, #4 Kevin Harvick. Here Kevin has 31 starts, one win and eight Top 5’s. He is ranked #1 on flat tracks and is #6 hottest over the last six weeks. Here in New Hampshire Kevin has finished three of the last four races in the Top 5.

My #4 driver is a two-time former-winner here, #18 Kyle Busch. Kyle has 23 starts, two wins and eight total Top 5’s. In fact, in his last seven races here, three were second place finishes, two were eighth place finishes and a win in July last year. Only one of the seven wasn’t a Top 10 or better.

My #3 driver is on a hot streak here, #22 Joey Logano. Joey has 15 starts, two wins and six Top 5’s. Four of his Top 5’s came in the last four races – four straight Top 5’s! Over the last six weeks Joey is #2 hottest.

The #2 pick is the most recent winner here, #20 Matt Kenseth. Matt comes into the Granite Planet with 33 starts, three wins and nine Top 5 finishes. He is not only the most recent winner here with a win in July but won this fall race last year.

The #1 pick has been very consistent here, #2 Brad Keselowski. Brad has 14 starts here with one win and five Top 5’s. He has ten straight Top 15 finishes, is ranked #2 for me on flat tracks and is #4 hottest over the last six weeks. He is also #1 in average finish.
