TOP FIVE DRIVERS

Tum’s Fast Relief SHOT 500 from MARTINSVILLE

My #5 driver is tied for current winning-est driver here, #48 Jimmie Johnson.

Jimmie has 27 starts and 18 of those were Top 5’s. Fifteen of his last 20 races

were Top 5’s. And Jimmie has eight wins in just 27 starts. He is out of the

championship hunt but he is always looking for a win.

My #4 pick is my #4 ranked short track driver, #20 Matt Kenseth. Matt has 31

starts, no wins, and just five Top 5’s. Matt has four straight finishes of 6th

of better, including a 4th place earlier this year.

My #3 driver has never been strong here, #2 Brad Keselowski. Brad has 11 starts,

no wins and just two Top 5’s. Those two Top 5’s came in the last four races

including a 2nd place earlier this year race. He is not only getting better

here, but just about everywhere on the circuit. Brad is #5 hottest over the last

six weeks.

My #2 pick is my #3 ranked short track driver, #22 Joey Logano. Joey is on a

three race winning streak making him #1 hottest over the last six races. He is a

very good short track driver and his last three races here were Top 5’s.

My #1 driver to watch is tied with Jimmie for current winning-est driver and has

the #1 average finish, #24 Jeff Gordon. Eighteen of Jeff’s last 25 starts here

were all Top 5’s. Jeff has 45 starts, eight wins and 28 Top 5’s. His last win

was in this race in 2013. Jeff is also my#1 rated short track driver. The “Drive for Five” is ON!

GOODY’S HEADACHE RELIEF SHOT 500

Martinsville Speedway

November 1st, 1:30 PM ET, NBCSN TV

.526 Mile, 12 Degrees of Banking

We are six races through the ten race Chase for the Cup. Drivers #20 Denny

Hamlin, Ryan Newman #31, #88 Dale Earnhardt Jr, and #20 Matt Kenseth have been eliminated from the Chase. Eight drivers move forward into the Eliminator round and are looking for a win that will lock them in to the championship race in Homestead. This is the last of the season’s six short track races. We know that short tracks bring on short tempers and with just four races to go in the season, the drivers are doing what they must to gather enough points to claim a successful season. We probably won’t see a lot of patience on the track – bump and run could be the phrase of the day, or worse yet, dump and run. Chevy has won 75% of the races here in the last 10 years. In those 20 races over the last ten years Hendrick Motorsports accounts for 50% of those wins and their engine shop 65%. But, Denny Hamlin is the defending champion of this race in a Toyota. Will Hendrick Motorsports and Chevy return to Victory Lane? Or will we see Toyota continue to chip away at Hendrick’s dominance. We’ll find out on Sunday.

Tuesday look for our Top 10 short track drivers.
