Much of the praise and hype that surrounds the night race at Bristol is actually true about this race at Richmond International Speedway. RIR is an absolutely fantastic facility that delivers short track excitement with very, very fast speeds. Not just a great facility, this race will determine who will make the 16 driver Chase for the Cup. Jamie McMurray, Jeff Gordon, Paul Menard, Ryan Newman and Clint Bowyer are looking to lock into the Chase Saturday night. Aric Almirola, Kasey Kahne, Greg Biffle and Kyle Larson are sitting just outside the top 16. Every place on the track has Chase implications. For 19 drivers it is easy: win and you are in. The nine I just mentioned could do it on a win or by points, but only five of them will. In 2009 Toyota got their first win here from Kyle Busch. Since then the Toyotas have done very well. In fact from 2009-2012 Toyota won seven of the eight races. But in the five races since 2012, two were won by Chevrolet and three by Ford. In the last ten years Chevy has dominated with the most wins -nine. Three manufactures with something to brag about and five more Chase positions on the line makes Richmond the race to watch this season.
