TOP FIVE DRIVERS

FED EX 400 BENEFITTING AUTISM SPEAKS from DOVER

The #5 pick was the bridesmaid twice here last year, #2 Brad Keselowski. Brad has 10 starts, one win and four Top 5’s. 40% not bad and more importantly, four of his last five races were Top 5’s including the two second place finishes last year for the #2 car. His single win came in the 2nd race of 2012.

My #4 driver to watch has the #2 average finish at the Monster Mile, #24 Jeff Gordon. He has 43 starts, five wins and 18 Top 5’s. Jeff loves coming here where he is not only is the most recent winner here but four of his last five starts were Top 5’s.

My #3 pick has horrible stats here in the first state, #4 Kevin Harvick. Kevin has 28 starts, no wins and three Top 5’s. Again not the best stats but he is #5 hottest over the last six weeks. He is also #2 ranked on tracks like this. He has been strong everywhere this season Dover should be no exception.

The #2 pick has never won here, #22 Joey Logano. Joey comes into the Monster Mile with 12 starts and just three Top 5’s. His last six races though were all Top 10’s and two were Top 5’s. He is ranked #3 for me on ovals like this.

My #1 driver is the winning-est current driver here, #48 Jimmie Johnson. Here at Dover Jimmie has nine wins in just 26 starts and 14 Top 5’s. He has won six of his last 12 races here helping him to the #1 in average finish.

1 Mile, 24 Degrees of Banking

We are done with two weeks of racing in Charlotte, and it is time we visit the concrete jungle in Dover, DE, AKA the Monster Mile. I love this track! The banking is high and the site lines are amazing. Just about wherever you sit you have a great view of the track. In the last ten years one teams has dominated here. Hendrick Motorsports has eight wins, seven by Jimmie Johnson and one from Jeff Gordon. Roush Fenway Racing also has five, with the most recent from Matt Kenseth in this race in 2011. Penske Racing has two, with the most recent by Brad Keselowski. Matt has moved on to Joe Gibbs Racing where they have only found victory lane twice in the last ten years, both times with Kyle Busch. Will Matt bring JGR their first win at Dover since 2010? Will Hendrick Motorsports or Roush Fenway Racing take the lead in most wins in the last ten years? Or will another team take victory? We’ll find out Sunday.

Tuesday look for our Top 10 teams and Thursday look for our Top 30 driver rankings for Dover.

TOP FIVE DRIVERS

COCA-COLA 600:Charlotte Top 5 Drivers to Watch

My #5 driver has the #3 average finish here, #22 Joey Logano. Joey has 12 starts here and four total Top 5’s. He is #4 ranked on tracks like this. Joey couldn’t stay out of trouble last Saturday, but if he can on Sunday he should notch up another Top 5.

The #4 pick is Mr. Consistency, #20 Matt Kenseth. He has 11 Top 15 finishes in the last 12 starts in the Queen City. He is also a two-time former-winner here. Matt has those two wins in his 31 starts and nine Top 5 finishes. Matt is also the #3 ranked driver on tracks like this.

My #3 pick has the #2 average finish here, #5 Kasey Kahne. Seven of his last eight races were all Top 10’s and half of them were Top 5’s. He has four wins in just 22 starts with nine Top 5’s. Kasey has been quiet so far this year, look for that to change.

My #2 driver has the most wins of any current driver here, #48 Jimmie Johnson. Jimmie has seven points’ wins plus four All Star wins! He has 27 starts and seven wins and 13 Top 5’s. He is also #1 hottest over the last six weeks and the defending champion of this race.

My #1 pick is a three-time former-winner here, #4 Kevin Harvick. Yeah, he has three wins, but in 28 career starts he only has five Top 5’s…five.  Kevin looked great here in the All Star race, he finished 2nd. He is ranked #2 for me on tracks like this and most importantly his two of his wins came in the 600 mile May race, and one in the autumn 500 mile race. Kevin is locked into The Chase so look for some pit strategy gambles. Kevin is #2 hottest over the last six races.

Monday look for our preview of the FED EX 400 from Dover.
