TOP 5 DRIVERS

Top 5 Drivers to Watch:Daytona 500

My #5 driver won the 400 mile race here in 2008, #18 Kyle Busch. Kyle has 16 starts, one win and six Top 5’s. Kyle is not really known as a restrictor plate driver but he did show his skills here yesterday by winning the second Budweiser Duel race. That win lets him start 4th.

My #4 pick is a driver who won his first Sprint Cup race here in 2003, #16 Greg Biffle. Greg is my #4 rated restrictor plate driver and did very well in the Duel Race yesterday. Greg started 14th and finished 2nd and should be able to keep this momentum going on Sunday. Greg is confident because he has 16 starts, one win and six Top 5’s. In fact one of those Top 5’s was last year when he finished 3rd.

My #3 driver to watch has done better here in July than he has done in February, #5 Kasey Kahne. Kasey has 18 starts, no wins and two Top 5 finishes. Kasey’s only two Top 5’s came here in July in 2010 and 2011. Things are turning around in February for Kasey as he qualified 6th and finished in 2nd place in his Duel race.

The #2 driver is a two-time winner here at Daytona, #29 Kevin Harvick. Kevin has 23 starts, with wins in the 500 in 2007 and in July’s 400 mile race in 2009. He also won the non-points’ race here last Saturday, the Sprint Unlimited. Four of his last six points’ races were Top 10 finishes. Kevin is my #5 rated driver on restrictor plate tracks and he will start in 3RD place.

My #1 pick is a two-time former-winner, #17 Matt Kenseth. Matt has 26 starts, two wins, and seven Top 5’s. Matt also has a new ride this year. He has moved to Joe Gibbs Racing and traded his Ford for

a Toyota. Any question he might have trouble with the transition was dispelled yesterday when Matt finished 5th in his Duel race. Matt is the defending Champion of this race and in fact has three straight Top 5’s here at Daytona. Matt also has the #1 Best Average Finish here.

Monday look for our preview of the Subway Fresh Fit 500 from Phoenix.
